Derek has over a decade of institutional healthcare and life sciences investing experience, most
recently as a Director at Cedar Pine, where he leads healthcare services and healthcare
technology investments as a growth equity investor or as a majority control investor building
long-term operating businesses within the healthcare ecosystem.
Through his career he has played integral roles in establishing new companies as a founding
team member or often as the first institutional investor. He has backed dozens of companies
within healthcare services as well as within the therapeutics arena, where he led or was on teams
that played critical roles in over 13 FDA approvals.
He previously was an investor at Sante Ventures, Paragon Biosciences, and an investment banker at multiple firms. Derek holds a Masters
in Biotechnology from Johns Hopkins University and a BBA from Emory University.
